Regular Season Round 23: Helsinki Seagulls - Pyrinto 77-71

Korisliiga top team - Helsinki Seagulls (17-4) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (8-14) 77-71. It looked good early as Tampereen Pyrinto took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Helsinki Seagulls had a 16-14 second period charge getting the lead and Tampereen Pyrinto was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-77. They outrebounded Tampereen Pyrinto 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Antto Nikkarinen (185-91, agency: Blacktop Management) who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points and 8 assists. American guard Remy Abell (193-92, college: Xavier, agency: Inception Sports) helped adding 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward J'Nathan Bullock (196-87, college: Cleveland St.) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Topias Palmi (194-94) scored 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Helsinki Seagulls maintains first place with 17-4 record. Tampereen Pyrinto lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. They share it with BC Nokia. Helsinki Seagulls will play against Kouvot (#6) in Kouvola in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Tampereen Pyrinto will play on the road against Joensuun Kataja and hopes to get back on the winning track.
