Regular Season Round 20: Forca Lleida - Palencia 78-80

Important game to mention about took place in Lleida. Fourth ranked Palencia Baloncesto (14-6) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked Lleida Basquet (11-9) 80-78 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It looked good early as Lleida Basquet took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Palencia Baloncesto had a 20-14 second period charge getting the lead and Lleida Basquet was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-80. The winners were led by naturalized Senegalese power forward Mamadou Samb (210-89) who scored that evening 25 points and point guard Daniel Rodriguez (182-84) supported him with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Palencia Baloncesto players scored in double figures. Even 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Garrett Nevels (188-92, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Lleida Basquet. Brazilian forward Leonardo Demetrio (203-94) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Lleida Basquet's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Palencia Baloncesto have a solid three-game winning streak. Palencia Baloncesto moved-up to second place, which they share with Gipuzkoa GBC. Lleida Basquet at the other side keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Melilla. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Leche Rio Breogan (#4) in Lugo in the next round. Lleida Basquet will play on the road against Magia Huesca (#17) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
