Regular Season Round 26: Toros - Fuerza Regia 73-86

The game between Top Four teams took place in Nuevo Laredo. 3rd ranked host Toros (16-10) lost to first ranked Fuerza Regia (26-1) 86-73. The game was mostly controlled by Fuerza Regia. Toros was better in third quarter 28-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) notched 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra) supported him with 23 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Four Fuerza Regia players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Toros. International forward Marco Ramos (198-87, college: Grand Canyon) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Toros' coach Jose Martinez Boglio rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuerza Regia have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-1 record. Toros lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the third place with ten games lost. Fuerza Regia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toros will play again at home against the league's leader Fuerza Regia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
