Regular Season Round 15: Paterna - Cartagena 68-87

Very significant was Cartagena's (#6) 19-point road victory against 4th placed Paterna in Group E 87-68. The game without a history. Cartagena led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Paterna's 32. They outrebounded Paterna 43-29 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Stephon Carter (193-91, college: CSU Bakersfield) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Gonzalo Garcia (195-96) accounted for 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Cartagena players scored in double figures. Forward Juan Navarro (195-91) came up with 8 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Hector Piquer (190-91) added 17 points respectively for Paterna in the defeat. Paterna's coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Cartagena (7-6) moved-up to third place in Group E. Paterna at the other side dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Benidorm. Cartagena will play against Benidorm (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Paterna will play against Sagunto in Gilet and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
