Regular Season Round 15: Burgos - Mondragon 70-75

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Mondragon and higher ranked Burgos had identical 4-7 record. But Burgos was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Mondragon 75-70 on Saturday night. Burgos was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Mondragon forced 21 Burgos turnovers. Strangely Burgos outrebounded Mondragon 47-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Gorka Arejolaleiba (178-81) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 4 steals. Power forward Ivan Saez de Cortazar (198-91) helped adding 15 points. Five Mondragon players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was British guard Jules Akodo (188-96) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and American center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Burgos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Mondragon (5-7) moved-up to eighth place in Group A-A, which they share with Pielagos. Loser Burgos dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Mondragon will face Pielagos (#9) in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round. Burgos will play on the road against Ardoi in Zizur Mayor and hope to win that game.
