Regular Season Round 16: Moncalieri - Varese Robur 70-65

Very expected game when 10th ranked Varese Robur (6-9) was defeated on the road by second ranked Moncalieri (11-4) 70-65 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Moncalieri made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Varese Robur turnovers. Varese Robur was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Francesco Conti (205-83) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Daniele Merletto (175-93) who added 9 points and 8 assists during the contest. Moncalieri's coach Lorenzo Pansa allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side point guard Marco Santambrogio (188-88) responded with 27 points and the former international point guard Federico Bolzonella (184-84) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Moncalieri maintains second position in B with 11-4 record having just three points less than leader Omegna. Loser Varese Robur dropped to the twelfth place with nine games lost. Moncalieri will face Valsesia (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Varese Robur will play against USE Basket (#4) and hope to win that game.
