Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Melsele and 9th ranked Ieper had identical 7-8 record. But Ieper was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Melsele 73-63 on Saturday night. Melsele forced 22 Ieper turnovers. Dutch power forward Patrick Hilliman (206-82, college: High Point) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and forward Thomas Lamot (190-87) chipped in 16 points and 4 steals. Center Gilles Dierickx (213-92, college: Seattle Pacific) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Senegalese-Spanish power forward Mamadou Diop (204-93) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Melsele (8-8) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Houthalen and Soba. Loser Ieper dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with Giants B and Royal Brussels. Melsele will meet at home higher ranked Gent Hawks (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ieper will play against Oxaco (#4) in Boechout and hope to secure a win.
