Regular Season Round 14: Villeneuve - Tarbes 76-68

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (9-5) defeated at home bottom-ranked Tarbes (3-11) 76-68. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tarbes won third quarter 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Villeneuve D'Ascq forced 22 Tarbes turnovers. Ukrainian swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) notched 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and naturalized Senegalese forward Mame-Marie Sy-Diop (185-85) supported her with 11 points and 4 assists. Villeneuve D'Ascq's coach Frederic Dusart allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 24 points by the former international guard Adja Konteh (178-92) did not help to save the game for Tarbes. Center Elodie Christmann (190-84) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Villeneuve D'Ascq have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bourges. Newly promoted Tarbes stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq's next round opponent will be higher ranked Lattes Montpellier (#3) on the road and it may be the game of the week. Tarbes will play against Nice (#7) and hope to win that game.
