Regular Season Round 14: Nice - Hainaut 75-77

A very close game took place in Nice between Hainaut and Nice. Ninth ranked Hainaut (5-8) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Nice (7-7). Hainaut managed to escape with a 2-point win 77-75 on Saturday evening. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Hainaut forced 20 Nice turnovers. Strangely Nice outrebounded Hainaut 38-19 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Hainaut especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Forward Marie Mbuyamba (184-93) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Joyce Cousseins-Smith (165-88) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals during the contest. German forward Romy Baer (187-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists and American power forward Victoria Macaulay (193-90, college: Temple, agency: Two Points) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Four Hainaut and five Nice players scored in double figures. Hainaut maintains ninth position with 5-8 record. Loser Nice dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Mondeville. Hainaut will meet at home higher ranked Nantes Reze (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nice will play against Tarbes and hope to secure a win.
