Regular Season Round 13: Arras - Montbrison 74-71

Ninth-ranked Montbrison (5-8) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Arras (9-4) on Saturday. Arras managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Montbrison won second period 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Arras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Montbrison's 20. Forward Fabienne Constant (186-86) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and guard Aminata Konate (169-90) chipped in 6 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Ukrainian power forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, agency: LBM Management) responded with 25 points and 7 rebounds and Cameroonian Amina Njonkou (185-88, college: Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Arras. They moved-up to third place. Loser Montbrison keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Arras will face Toulouse (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Montbrison will play against Aulnoye and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
