Regular Season Round 13: Dunkerque - Avenir 48-49

Twelfth-ranked Dunkerque (3-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Avenir (12-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Chartres managed to secure only one-point victory 49-48. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-12. But Dunkerque won second period 9-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Dunkerque 43-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Avenir made 8 blocks. Point guard Magali Mendy (178-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American forward Tiffany Clarke (183-91, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side Latvian center Aija Brumermane (192-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and forward Aurelie Favre (175-91) scored 5 points and 5 assists. Avenir have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Roche. Dunkerque lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with ten games lost. They share it with Roannais. Avenir is looking forward to face Limoges (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dunkerque will play against SIG and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
