Regular Season Round 9: Sagesse - Al Riyadi 79-109
Date: January 15, 2017
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Al Riyadi (#4) and Sagesse (#8). Sagesse was crushed at home by 30 points 79-109 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Al Riyadi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Sagesse's 34 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Sagesse 46-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Al Riyadi made 8 blocks. It was a good game for Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. The former international point guard Wael Arakji (194-94) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. American guard Terrell Stoglin (185-91, college: Maryland) answered with 50 points (!!!) and the other American import power forward Ivan Johnson (203-84, college: CS San Bernar., agency: Haylett Sports) added 16 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Sagesse. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion (6-3) moved-up to third place. Sagesse at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Champville and Mayrouba. Al Riyadi are looking forward to face Champville (#7) in Dik El Mehdi in the next round. Sagesse will play on the road against Mayrouba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
