Regular Season Round 10: DCU Mercy - Meteors 65-45

Date: January 15, 2017
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Dublin: DCU Mercy (#4) and Meteors (#8). DCU Mercy (5-3) smashed visiting Meteors (2-7) by 20 points 65-45. DCU Mercy dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Meteors' 26 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 10 blocks. American forward Sarah Fairbanks (185, college: St.Joseph's) had a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Sarah Woods (174-88) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. DCU Mercy's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Monet Neal (178-95, college: Houston Baptist) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Shelby Smith (173, college: St.Joseph's) scored 10 points. DCU Mercy moved-up to second place, which they share with WIT Wildcats and Liffey Celtics. Meteors at the other side dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. They share it with Brunell. DCU Mercy is looking forward to face league's second-placed Liffey Celtics in Kildare in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Meteors will play at home against NUIG Mystics (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
