Regular Season Round 27: La Union - Echague 87-72

Not a big story in a game in Formosa where 10th ranked Echague (4-21) was defeated by eighth ranked La Union (12-14) 87-72 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 51-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. La Union dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Echague's 32. It was a great evening for American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Facundo Pinero (200-88) helped adding 17 points. Four La Union players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican guard Gelvis Solano (185-94, college: Merrimack, agency: Basket Management Solutions) with 27 points and 6 rebounds and Panamanian forward Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: S.Mississippi) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. La Union moved-up to seventh place. Newly promoted Echague keeps the tenth position with 21 games lost. La Union will face higher ranked Argentino (#4) in Junin in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Echague will play on the road against Regatas Corrientes (#3) and hope to win that game.
