Regular Season Round 14: Hapoel Holon - Maccabi T-A 73-78

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Holon. First ranked Maccabi T-A faced second-ranked Hapoel Holon. Guests from Tel-Aviv (11-3) defeated host Hapoel Holon (9-5) 78-73. Hapoel Holon was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Maccabi T-A made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The former international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Guinea-Bissau-American center Colton Iverson (212-89, college: Colorado St., agency: Pensack Sports) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Darion Atkins (203-92, college: Virginia) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman James Bell (198-92, college: Villanova) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Hapoel Holon. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon's coach Dan Shamir rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi T-A maintains first position with 11-3 record. Hapoel Holon at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Bnei Hertzeliyya. Maccabi T-A's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tel-Aviv Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
