Regular Season Round 31: Sendai 89ers - Toyota Alvark 80-91

The game between Top Four teams took place in Sendai. 4th placed host Sendai 89ers (8-22) lost to first ranked Toyota Alvark (23-5) 91-80. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Sendai 89ers was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Toyota Alvark outrebounded Sendai 89ers 44-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds. Toyota Alvark's coach Takuma Ito used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Toyota Alvark. They maintain first place with 23-5 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the fourth position with 22 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face Yokohama BC (#5) at home in the next round. Sendai 89ers will play against Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
