Regular Season Round 16: Njardvik - Grindavik 81-61

Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Njardvik (7-10) smashed at home bottom-ranked Grindavik (3-14) 81-61 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Njardvik. Grindavik managed to win second period 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Grindavik's 34. They outrebounded Grindavik 48-36 including 33 on the defensive glass. Njardvik looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) fired a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Bjork Gunnarsdotir (-98) chipped in 5 points and 9 assists. Njardvik's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international center Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-88, college: UTRGV) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Ingunn Kristinardottir (170-95) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Newly promoted Njardvik maintains fifth position with 7-10 record. Grindavik lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Njardvik will meet higher ranked Stjarnan (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Grindavik will play against the league's second-placed Skallagrimur (#2) and hope to secure a win.
