Regular Season Round 22: Uppsala - Umea 88-60

Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Uppsala Basket (10-8) smashed at home 8th ranked Umea (3-16) 88-60. It looked good early as Umea took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Uppsala Basket had a 26-8 second period charge getting the lead and Umea was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-88. Uppsala Basket forced 21 Umea turnovers and outrebounded them 38-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Umea was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Carl Engstrom (216-91, college: Alabama) notched a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and swingman Axel Nordstrom (193-91) supported him with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Uppsala Basket players scored in double figures. Even 12 points by American guard Gerald Williams (190-91, college: La Sierra) did not help to save the game for Umea. His fellow American import forward George Valentine (203-88, college: Winthrop, agency: Mansfield and Associates) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Uppsala Basket moved-up to fifth place. Umea lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Uppsala Basket will play against higher ranked Sodertalje Kings (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Umea will play against Malbas (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
