Regular Season Round 15: Valladolid - Oviedo 66-72

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourteenth ranked Oviedo and 13th ranked Ponce Valladolid had identical 3-11 record. But Ponce Valladolid was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Oviedo 72-66 on Saturday night. Ponce Valladolid was trailing by 14 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-16 charge of Oviedo, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ponce Valladolid to just 3 points in second quarter. Strangely Ponce Valladolid outrebounded Oviedo 45-27 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for Canadian guard Mariah Nunes (178-93, college: Ryerson) who led her team to a victory with 22 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Joy Brown (180-93, college: Iona) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Center Alejandra De La Fuente (193-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds and American guard Alyesha Lovett (183-93, college: Cincinnati) added 22 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ponce Valladolid. Oviedo (4-11) moved-up to twelfth place in Group A. Ponce Valladolid lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Oviedo will face higher ranked Real Celta Vigo (#10) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ponce Valladolid will play against Maquinaria Ensino in Lugo and hope to win that game.
