Regular Season Round 31: Yamagata - Shimane SM 66-78

There was a small surprise when third ranked Shimane Magic (22-6) defeated on the road 3rd placed Yamagata (14-15) 78-66 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Shimane Magic. Yamagata was better in second period 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Shimane Magic outrebounded Yamagata 41-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shimane Magic made 8 blocks. Yamagata was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Josh Davis (203-91, college: San Diego St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds. Point guard Edward Yamamoto (173-86) helped adding 13 points. Four Shimane Magic players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) scored 17 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Shimane Magic have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 22-6 record behind leader Kumamoto V. which they share with defeated Yamagata. Loser Yamagata keeps the third position with 15 games lost. Shimane Magic will have a break next round. Yamagata will play again at home against Shimane Magic and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
