Regular Season Round 15: Fanola SML - Palermo 53-48
Date: January 21, 2017
Rather predictable result in San Martino di L where eighth ranked Fanola SML (7-7) defeated 12th ranked Palermo (2-11) 53-48 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 53-48. Fanola SML dominated on the defensive end, holding Palermo to just 2 points in second quarter. They also forced 19 Palermo turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fanola SML made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for point guard Elena Fietta (172-95) who led her team to a victory scoring 9 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Jasmine Keys (190-97) helped adding 7 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Fanola SML's coach Michele Tomei used entire bench in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Croatian forward Ivana Blazevic (184-93) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Elettra Ferretti (175-93) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Fanola SML moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Alpo VF. Palermo lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Fanola SML will face Pordenone (#11) on the road in the next round. Palermo will play against Udine Delser and hope to win that game.
