Regular Season Round 16: Grasshoppers - Amazone 88-23

Bottom-ranked Amazone (0-16) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to second ranked Grasshoppers (10-4) 88-23 on Saturday evening. Grasshoppers held Amazone to an opponent 17.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Grasshoppers forced 24 Amazone turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including 18 on the offensive glass. Power forward Ingrid Van der Plas (178-91) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Mia Hordijk (166-0) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Grasshoppers players scored in double figures. Grasshoppers' coach Rick Driessen felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jessica Freeman (163-91, college: N.C.Central) produced 5 points and 6 rebounds and Femke Herber added 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Grasshoppers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-4 record having seven points less than leader Lekdetec.nl. Amazone at the other side still closes the standings. Grasshoppers will meet at home Rotterdam (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Amazone will play against Den Helder and hopes to get finally their first victory.
