Regular Season Round 5: Pinar del Rio - Guantanamo 75-49

Second defeat of league's leader Guantanamo (3-2) against sixth ranked Pinar (1-4) 75-49 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guantanamo. The game was mostly controlled by Pinar. Guantanamo managed to win second period 19-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Guantanamo to just 6 points in first and fourth quarters. Pinar well out of reach of Guantanamo shooting 96.9 percent from the field. Swingman Eliany Gallardo (170-99) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Doraimis Martinez (170-84) contributed with 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Pinar's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Beatriz Cruz (165-95) answered with 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and center Maria Esteves (173-96) added 10 points in the effort for Guantanamo. Defending champion left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with Camaguey. Guantanamo at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Sancti Spiritus and Santiago. They were replaced at the leadership position by Capitalinas.
