There was no surprise when 5th ranked Al-Qazeres (8-8) was crushed on the road by second ranked Argon Uni Girona (14-2) 75-56 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Argon Uni Girona. Al-Qazeres was better in fourth quarter 19-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Al-Qazeres 47-22 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Leonor Rodriguez Manso (180-91, college: Florida St.) fired 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Greek forward Artemis Spanou (188-93, college: Robert Morris) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Argon Uni Girona's coach Eric Suris used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Julie Forster (185-91, college: Albany) produced 13 points and 8 rebounds and American-Italian swingman Pamela Rosanio (178-86, college: Massachusetts) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Argon Uni Girona have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-2 record behind leader Avenida. Newly promoted Al-Qazeres keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Argon Uni Girona will face Araski (#4) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round. Al-Qazeres will play at home against Socinsa Bembibre and hope to win that game.
