Regular Season Round 16: Umana VE - MIA-RO Cantu 93-72

Very expected game when 12th ranked AV Cantu (6-10) was rolled over on the road by second ranked Umana Venezia (12-4) 93-72. It looked good early as AV Cantu took a 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Umana Venezia had a 27-15 second period charge getting the lead and AV Cantu was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-93. The winners were led by Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) who scored that evening 27 points and 7 rebounds and American-Georgian point guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington) supported him with 18 points. Umana Venezia's coach Walter De Raffaele felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws) by American point guard Zabian Dowdell (191-84, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) did not help to save the game for AV Cantu. His fellow American import power forward JaJuan Johnson (208-89, college: Purdue) added 18 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Umana Venezia maintains second position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader EA7 Armani. AV Cantu at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Umana Venezia's next round opponent will be Betaland Cdo (#6) in Capo d'Orlando. AV Cantu will play at home against Brescia (#8) and hope to win that game.
