Second Stage Round 8: Jekabpils II - Riga/Ridzene 100-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with nineteenth ranked Jekabpils II's (3-6) home victory over 20th ranked Riga/Ridzene (1-6) 100-80 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 53-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Jekabpils II dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Riga/Ridzene's 42. They outrebounded Riga/Ridzene 47-23 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jekabpils II looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Swingman Edijs Stiebrins (190-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Reinis Avotins (202-98) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Jekabpils II's coach Andris Cerjaks gave the chance to play for all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Point guard Gustavs Karlis Kampuss (180-99) replied with 23 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Edgars Lacis (191-98) added 13 points and 9 assists in the effort for Riga/Ridzene. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Jekabpils II maintains nineteenth position with 3-6 record. Newly promoted Riga/Ridzene keeps the twentieth place with six games lost. Jekabpils II will face higher ranked VEF skola (#15) in Riga in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Riga/Ridzene will play on the road against LU/BS Riga (#16) and hope to win that game.
