Regular Season Round 24: Al Gharafa - Al Shamal 89-77

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#2) and Al Shamal (#6). Al Gharafa (10-1) won against visiting Al Shamal (4-7) 89-77. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 30-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Al Gharafa forced 19 Al Shamal turnovers. It was a good game for American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. The other American import swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) contributed with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Mohamed Haras replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 25 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Elhag Ali Saleh (191) added 27 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Al Shamal. Al Gharafa have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-1 record behind leader El Jaysh. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Al Ahli. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Arabi.
