Regular Season Round 24: Al Wakrah - El Jaysh 74-109

No shocking result in a game when top-ranked El Jaysh (11-0) crushed on the road 9th ranked Al Wakrah (2-9) 109-74 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 68-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. El Jaysh dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Al Wakrah's 36. They outrebounded Al Wakrah 51-33 including a 38-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. El Jaysh looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Al Wakrah's players. It was a good game for American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. The other American import point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) contributed with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Four El Jaysh players scored in double figures. El Jaysh's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Nigerian forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-87, college: St.Francis, NY) replied with 29 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Al Wakrah. El Jaysh have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-0 record. Loser Al Wakrah keeps the ninth place with nine games lost. El Jaysh's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
