Regular Season Round 19: FSU - IA 65-70

Date: January 26, 2017
There was a small surprise in Selfoss where eighth ranked IA (5-12) defeated 6th ranked FSU (6-11) 70-65. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But FSU won second period 14-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when IA won last quarter 20-16. It was an exceptional evening for guard Armann Vilbergsson (190-85) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Derek Shouse (188-93, college: Mo.-St.Louis) accounted for 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four IA players scored in double figures. American forward Terrance Motley (201-91, college: Sam Houston St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Ari Gylfason (186-89) added 17 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) respectively for FSU in the defeat. FSU's coach Eloy Doce rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. IA maintains eighth place with 5-12 record. FSU at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. IA will play against higher ranked Hamar (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FSU will play against the league's leader Hottur having rather not much hope for a victory.
