Regular Season Round 16: Canberra - Sydney 75-77

Fifth-ranked Canberra Capitals (10-9) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Sydney Uni Flames (15-6). The visitors from Sydney managed to secure only two-point victory 77-75. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Canberra Capitals. Canberra Capitals were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 21-13 third quarter run of Sydney Uni Flames. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Capitals' 28. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Belinda Snell (180-81) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah) who added 16 points and 5 assists during the contest. Sydney Uni Flames' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side the former international center Marianna Tolo (196-89) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) scored 16 points and 8 assists. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. Sydney Uni Flames have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Canberra Capitals at the other side dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will play against Boomers (#7) in Melbourne in the next round where they are favorite. Canberra Capitals will play on the road against Perth Lynx and hope to get back on the winning track.
