We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Salvador where 4th placed Universo/Vitoria (9-6) was defeated by fifth ranked Pinheiros (10-6) 72-67. Pinheiros outrebounded Universo/Vitoria 43-31 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Universo/Vitoria helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) contributed with 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international Arthur Silva (196-82) answered with 15 points and American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) added 10 points and 6 assists in the effort for Universo/Vitoria. Four Universo/Vitoria players scored in double figures. Pinheiros moved-up to third place, which they share with Bauru. Universo/Vitoria at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Pinheiros' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Macae (#15) at home which should be an easy win for them. Universo/Vitoria will play against the league's leader Brasilia (#1) and hope to win that game.
