Date: January 27, 2017
An interesting game for Joensuun Kataja (14-7) which played road game in Lapua against 4th ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (13-11). Third ranked Joensuun Kataja managed to get a 12-point victory 106-94. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lapuan Korikobrat. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Lapuan Korikobrat managed to win fourth quarter 30-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joensuun Kataja made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Canadian guard Daniel Mullings (188-91, college: N.Mexico St.) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and American Rion Brown (198-91, college: Miami, FL) supported him with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Joensuun Kataja's coach Greg Gibson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 24 points and 5 rebounds by American guard Jamal Jones (203-93, college: Texas A&M, agency: Stealth Sport) did not help to save the game for Lapuan Korikobrat. His fellow American import forward Dom Morris (201-90, college: Boston U.) added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Four Joensuun Kataja and five Lapuan Korikobrat players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have a solid four-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja maintains third position with 14-7 record having six points less than leader Helsinki Seagulls. Loser Lapuan Korikobrat dropped to the fifth place with 11 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will meet at home league's second-placed Salon Vilpas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lapuan Korikobrat will have a break next round.
