Regular Season Round 19: Kouvot - FoA 102-68

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Forssan Alku (12-8) against fifth ranked Kouvottaret (10-8) on Saturday night. Visiting Forssan Alku was crushed by Kouvottaret in Kouvot 102-68. It looked good early as Forssan Alku took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Kouvottaret had a 34-18 second period charge getting the lead and Forssan Alku was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-102. Kouvottaret dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Forssan Alku's 40. Kouvottaret forced 26 Forssan Alku turnovers and outrebounded them 50-32 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kouvottaret players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Forssan Alku's players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-93, college: Charleston) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech) accounted for 24 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Five Kouvottaret players scored in double figures. American guard Ashley Clark (180-93, college: Tulsa) came up with 42 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Hanna Vapamaa (181-90) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Forssan Alku in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Kouvottaret maintains fifth place with 10-8 record. Forssan Alku lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with eight games lost. Kouvottaret will play against Espoo Team (#7) on the road in the next round. Forssan Alku will play against Peli-Karhut (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
