Regular Season Round 17: Groningen - Amsterdam 82-52

Leader Groningen delivered the sixteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Amsterdam (7-10) 82-52. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Amsterdam managed to win second period 24-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Amsterdam to just 6 points in first quarter. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Amsterdam's 14. Groningen forced 20 Amsterdam turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Chase Fieler (203-92, college: FGCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Aaron Roye (184-88) responded with 19 points and 5 assists and Surinamese Sergio de Randamie (201-84, college: Houston) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Groningen (16-1) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Loser Amsterdam keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Rotterdam. Groningen will meet at home Dukes UDB (#4) in the next round. Amsterdam will play against Rotterdam and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
