Regular Season Round 17: Weert - Rotterdam 76-78

Eighth-ranked Weert (1-16) made lots of trouble for sixth ranked Rotterdam (7-10) on Saturday. The visitors from Rotterdam managed to secure only two-point victory 78-76. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 30-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Rotterdam made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Weert helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard La'Shard Anderson (185-89, college: Boise St.) who scored 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. His fellow American import guard Jermaine Marshall (193-90, college: Arizona St.) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Kasper Averink (183-93) produced 17 points and guard Jeroen van Vugt (192-91) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Weert's coach Radenko Varagic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rotterdam moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Amsterdam. Weert lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Rotterdam is looking forward to face Amsterdam (#6) on the road in the next round. Weert will play against Leiden and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
