Regular Season Round 15: Venezia - La Spezia 70-39
Date: January 29, 2017
Very expected game when 12th ranked La Spezia (1-14) was rolled over on the road by third ranked Venezia (12-2) 70-39 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Venezia. La Spezia managed to win fourth quarter 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding La Spezia to just 4 points in third quarter. Venezia forced 24 La Spezia turnovers. It was a great evening for American point guard Ashleigh Fontenette (172-89, college: Texas, agency: Two Points) who led her team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. International point guard Caterina Dotto (166-93, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 9 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Valeria De Pretto (185-91, agency: LBM Management) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and guard Erika Striulli (170-90) scored 4 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Venezia. They maintain third place with 12-2 record having just one point less than leader Lucca. La Spezia lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Venezia will meet Umbertide (#7) on the road in the next round. La Spezia will play against Vigarano (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
