Second Stage Round 9: Jekabpils II - VEF skola 65-68

A very interesting game took place in Jekabpils. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 19th ranked Jekabpils II (3-7) to seventeenth ranked VEF skola (6-4) 68-65 on Tuesday evening. Jekabpils II was ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 20-9 third quarter run of VEF skola. It was a good game for guard Rainers Hermanovskis (188-0) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Francis Gustavs Lacis (200-99) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Reinis Avotins (202-98) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Edijs Stiebrins (190-96) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Jekabpils II. Jekabpils II's coach Andris Cerjaks tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. VEF skola moved-up to fifteenth place. Jekabpils II at the other side keeps the nineteenth position with seven games lost. VEF skola will have a break next round. Jekabpils II will play at home against Ventspils Augstskola (#13) and hope to win that game.
