Rather expected game when 11th ranked Hapoel Afula (7-10) was smashed by eighth ranked Hasharon (9-8) in Hod Hasharon 97-69 on Tuesday. They made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Hasharon outrebounded Hapoel Afula 46-30 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Vernon Teel (193-87, college: Loyola Mary) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import Storm Warren (201-88, college: LSU, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 24 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Hasharon's coach Hanan Hershkovich felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Jalen Cannon (198-93, college: St.Francis, NY) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Amit Gershon (183-95) added 14 points and 5 assists in the effort for Hapoel Afula. Hasharon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Hapoel Afula dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. Hasharon will face Maccabi Rehovot (#6) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Afula will play against Hap.Haifa (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
