Regular Season Round 17: Trefl Sopot - Stal Ostrow 71-87

There was no surprise in Sopot where 9th ranked Trefl (9-9) was defeated by seventh ranked Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (11-8) 87-71 on Thursday. Trefl was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Vincentian center Shawn King (208-82, college: ORU, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. American point guard Aaron Johnson (173-88, college: UAB, agency: Two Points) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists. Four Stal Ostrow Wlkp. players scored in double figures. Guard Piotr Smigielski (190-89) produced 15 points and American point guard Anthony Ireland (175-91, college: Loyola Mary) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Stal Ostrow Wlkp.. They moved-up to fifth place. Trefl lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with nine games lost. Stal Ostrow Wlkp. will face bottom-ranked Stabill (#17) in Tarnobrzeg in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Trefl will play on the road against Rosa (#11) in Radom and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
