Regular Season Round 8: Sancti Spiritus - Capitalinas 48-40

The biggest surprise took place in where host Sancti Spiritus (5-2) beat league's leader Capitalinas (5-2) 48-40 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitalinas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Capitalinas trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 17-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 40-48 at the end of the game. Sancti Spiritus dominated on the defensive end, holding Capitalinas to just 4 points in second quarter and to 12 points in first half. The best player for the winners was forward Eilen Gilbert (183-98) who scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. International forward Francy Ochoa (185-90) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. Point guard Dairis Tornell (176-92) produced 14 points and 5 rebounds and Elianis Armentero (175) added 8 points respectively for the guests. Capitalinas' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Sancti Spiritus keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Capitalinas. Capitalinas will play next round against Pinar trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sancti Spiritus will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Guantanamo on the road.
