Regular Season Round 26: Al Ahli - Al Wakrah 82-92

There was a minor upset in Doha where 7th ranked Al Ahli (5-9) was defeated by ninth ranked Al Wakrah (4-10) 92-82 on Saturday. Al Ahli was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 33-21 charge of Al Wakrah, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 34. The best player for the winners was American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty) who scored 36 points (!!!), 7 assists and 8 steals. American-Nigerian forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-87, college: St.Francis, NY) chipped in a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. Worth to mention Ayeni played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Serbian point guard Branko Jereminov (186-87) produced 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Ndoye Seydou Elhadj added 24 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Al Wakrah have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Al Shamal. Al Ahli lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Al Wakrah will face Al Sadd (#9) in Doha in the next round. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena El Jaysh.
