Regular Season Round 35: Yamagata - Kumamoto V. 68-60

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Yamagata. Third ranked Yamagata faced second-ranked Kumamoto V.. Host Yamagata (17-16) defeated guests from Kumamoto (26-7) 68-60. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kumamoto V.. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 18-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Yamagata dominated on the defensive end, holding Kumamoto V. to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Strangely Kumamoto V. outrebounded Yamagata 50-38 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. Point guard Takumi Furuno (179-93) produced 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Ryota Nakanishi (199-88) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Yamagata. They maintain third place with 17-16 record having seven points less than leader Gunma which they share with defeated Kumamoto V. Loser Kumamoto V. dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Yamagata will face again Kumamoto V. (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
