Regular Season Round 17: Fanola SML - Alpo VF 46-60

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Fanola SML (8-8) lost to eighth ranked Alpo VF (8-8) in San Martino di L 46-60. The game was mostly controlled by Alpo VF. Fanola SML was better in second period 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Fanola SML to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Alpo VF forced 20 Fanola SML turnovers and outrebounded them 41-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Bosnian Marina Dzinic (190-92) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Silvia Zanardelli (180-98) chipped in 4 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Alice Milani (170-99) produced 10 points and 5 rebounds and forward Gloria Pettenon (175-91) added 5 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Alpo VF moved-up to seventh place in A2. Alpo VF's next round opponent will be league's leader Bologna at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fanola SML will play against Civitanova (#4) and hope to win that game.
