Regular Season Round 16: AEK Athens - Kymis 71-65

Date: February 4, 2017
Very predictable result when third ranked AEK Athens (13-3) defeated at home 11th ranked Kymis (5-11) 71-65. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Kymis was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. AEK Athens made 24-of-29 charity shots (82.8 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Kymis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for naturalized Serbian Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds. American-Georgian guard Michael Dixon (186-90, college: Memphis, agency: Diamond Sports) contributed with 13 points for the winners. American forward Daniel Orton (208-90, college: Kentucky) replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Dimitrios Stamatis (192-96) added 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Kymis. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK Athens have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-3 record having just two points less than leader Olympiacos. Kymis lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with 11 games lost. AEK Athens' next round opponent will be Aiolos Trikallon (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Kymis will play against the league's second-placed Panathinaikos and hope to win that game.
