Date: February 4, 2017
Everything went according to plan when third ranked Cartagena (9-7) edged at home 9th ranked L Alfas (5-10) 69-68 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But L Alfas won second period 18-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cartagena forced 24 L Alfas turnovers and outrebounded them 38-27 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American guard Stephon Carter (193-91, college: CSU Bakersfield) who saved his team from a defeat with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Antonio Ferragut (196-94) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Cartagena players scored in double figures. L Alfas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cartagena maintains third position in Group E with 9-7 record having three points less than leader Chantada. L Alfas lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with ten games lost. Cartagena will face Almassera (#10) in Valencia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. L Alfas will play at home against Sagunto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
