Date: February 4, 2017
Leader Quimper UJAP delivered the sixteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 15th ranked Gries/Oberhoffen (8-13) 80-70 in Bischwiller. The game was mostly controlled by Quimper UJAP. Gries/Oberhoffen managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Quimper UJAP forced 21 Gries/Oberhoffen turnovers. American forward Dwight Burke (202-86, college: Marquette) stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Jahsha Bluntt (198-84, college: Delaware St.) chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. Burke is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Quimper UJAP's coach Laurent Foirest used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: Octagon Europe) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Lithuanian forward Rolandas Jakstas (202-92) scored 21 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The victory was the third consecutive win for Quimper UJAP. They maintain first place with 16-5 record. Newly promoted Gries/Oberhoffen dropped to the sixteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Lorient. Quimper UJAP will meet at home GET Vosges (#4) in the next round. Gries/Oberhoffen will play against Vendee Challans (#13) and hope to secure a win.
