Regular Season Round 17: Bolzano - Alghero 68-49
Date: February 4, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Alghero (1-16) was outscored on the road by twelfth ranked Bolzano (4-13) 68-49. The game was mostly controlled by Bolzano. Alghero was better in third quarter 13-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alghero to just 7 points in first quarter. Bolzano dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Alghero's 30. They outrebounded Alghero 47-27 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Croatian power forward Ivona Matic (189-86) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Safy Fall (176-89) chipped in 15 points. Bolzano's coach Maurizio Travaglini used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Point guard Carla Spiga (165-95) produced 14 points and point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) added 13 points respectively for the guests. Bolzano moved-up to eleventh place in A2. Newly promoted Alghero keeps the fourteenth position with 16 games lost. Bolzano's next round opponent will be higher ranked Milano (#4) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alghero will play against Costa Masnaga (#6) and hope to win that game.
