Regular Season Round 17: Empoli - Carugate 79-50

Very expected game when 12th ranked Carugate (3-14) was smashed on the road by second ranked Empoli (14-3) 79-50. The game was mostly controlled by Empoli. Carugate was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Carugate to just 7 points in second quarter. Empoli forced 25 Carugate turnovers. The best player for the winners was Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89) who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Lithuanian forward Gabriele Narviciute (190-90) chipped in 7 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals. Empoli's coach Alessio Cioni felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Power forward Marta Scarsi (182-95) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Cecilia Albano (180-96) added 6 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the guests. Empoli maintains second place in A2 with 14-3 record having just two points less than leader Sesto SG. Carugate at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Empoli's next round opponent will be Albino (#8) on the road which should be theoretically another easy game. Carugate will play against Scrivia (#7) and hope to win that game.
