Regular Season Round 17: Civitanova - Salerno 72-52

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Salerno (1-15) was outleveled by fourth ranked Civitanova (11-5) in Civitanova Marche 72-52. The game was mostly controlled by Civitanova. Salerno was better in second period 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Salerno to just 4 points in first quarter. Civitanova dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Salerno's 26. They outrebounded Salerno 38-24 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Silvia Ceccarelli (172-96) who scored 21 points. Point guard Margherita Mataloni (172-95) chipped in 17 points. Civitanova's coach Alberto Matassini allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Irish power forward Sarah Kenny (180-97) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Arianna Meschi (165-97) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Civitanova maintains fourth place in A2 with 11-5 record. Salerno at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Civitanova's next round opponent will be Fanola SML (#8) in San Martino di L. Salerno will play at home against Palermo (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
