Very expected game when 14th ranked Gran Canaria (3-15) was defeated on the road by second ranked Argon Uni Girona (16-2) 72-58 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Argon Uni Girona. Gran Canaria was better in third quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gran Canaria 51-32 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Haley Peters (190-92, college: Duke) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Nigerian-American Ifunanya Ibekwe (187-89, college: Arizona, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four Argon Uni Girona players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Mali center Mariam Coulibaly (183-97) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and American guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) scored 12 points. Gran Canaria's coach Domingo Diaz rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argon Uni Girona have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-2 record behind leader Avenida. Gran Canaria lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. Argon Uni Girona will face Zamarat (#12) in Zamora in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play at home against Socinsa Bembibre and hope to win that game.
